I was trained as a biophysicist at the University of Nijmegen, the Netherlands, and received my MSc degree in experimental physics in 1996. I obtained my PhD degree at the Max-Planck-Institute in Munich, Germany, in 2000. I have been performing brain research for my entire scientific career, in the United States, Germany, and for the last 21 years at Utrecht University and University Medical Center Utrecht. I founded the startup company Brain Science Tools BV in November 2011 as a spinoff from UMC Utrecht, and act as it's CEO and senior engineer. I am actively pursuing valorization and further development of techniques developed in a research setting in order to help patients benefit from our innovative approaches. I also hold a honorary position at the department of image sciences at UMC Utrecht.
