CSO/CTO | founder
I was trained as a biophysicist at the University of Nijmegen, the Netherlands, and received my MSc degree in experimental physics in 1996. I obtained my PhD degree at the Max-Planck-Institute in Munich, Germany, in 2000. I have been performing brain research for my entire scientific career, in the United States, Germany, and for the last 16 years at Utrecht University and University Medical Center Utrecht. I founded the startup company Brain Science Tools BV in November 2011 as a spinoff from UMC Utrecht, and act as it's CTO/CSO and senior engineer. I am actively pursuing valorization and further development of techniques developed at the UMC Utrecht in order to help patients benefit from our innovative approaches. These techniques originated mostly in the research group I am heading at the UMC Utrecht. I also hold a part-time post as associate professor at the image science research group at the University Medical Center Utrecht. I focus on functional neuroimaging and neurostimulation methods development, neurocomputational modeling and the control of action preparation in healthy subjects and patients with several disorders.
